Moscow’s Chief Architect Sergey Kuznetsov has announced the winners of the Open All-Russia Competition for a Concept of Redevelopment of two modernist cinema theaters: Varshava and Voskhod (winners). Russian-Dutch SVESMI Studio (svesmi) received the 1st prise for “Voskhod” movie theatre and shared the 1st prise for “Varshava” with consortium EMBT | Enric Miralles – Benedetta Tagliabue/A2OM/Spektrum. It is the first large scale competition for architectural redevelopment of Soviet modernist buildings under the mayor Sergey Sobyanin.

We are proud to note that Malishev Engineers were invited to collaborate on this interesting competion and even more proud to be part of the winning team! Sadly though, and this is not only happening in Russia, the winners will not see their scheme in construction. Lets hope this will change at some point soon….
